On Friday, April 7th, 2017 Sport 4 Life Cochrane will be hosted a Volunteer Appreciation Night in honour of extraordinary volunteers who have contributed to the well-being of our community through sport and recreation.

Awards were presented in the following categories:

LEADER/COACH OF THE YEAR: A leader or coach who exemplifies a positive presence in the lives of the participants she/he leads and is committed to volunteering, demonstrates a positive attitude, is dedicated to his/her sport/recreation pursuit, practices good sportsmanship and serves as a mentor in the development of athletes.

LOCAL BUSINESS CONTRIBUTOR OF THE YEAR: Honours a business that invests in our athletes, coaches, leaders and sport organizations. This business views sport/recreation as essential to a vibrant community.

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS: an individual who for some time has made a significant contribution and commitment to fostering active living in Cochrane. This person believes in helping others and is a role model in the pursuit of being active for life.

SPIRIT OF SPORT AWARD: An individual who embodies the spirit, character and passion of sport. This person holds a special place in the heart of the community and encourages everyone to succeed, making sport fun.

SPORT 4 LIFE AWARDS: One outstanding volunteer in each member sport organization. As a member organization you will have the opportunity to select this dedicated individual from your membership.

VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR: The Volunteer of the Year is selected from among all the Volunteer Recognition nominations. This person demonstrates personal devotion through the commitment to make a difference, the desire to support people in their personal sport/recreation endeavours and is dedicated to the development of quality programs in Cochrane.

Award Criteria Nominees must meet the following criteria to be eligible for a Sport Recognition Award:
Exemplify the spirit of community service, demonstrate exemplary initiative, leadership and commitment to sport in our community. Serve as a role model for others in our community, Inspire others to engage in volunteer service, fulfill the responsibilities of his/her role as a volunteer in sport and encourage the development of athletes and fitness in general within our community

Nomination Checklist Each nomination package must include:
Ensure nominee is aware of the nomination and agrees to participate in the awards program and nomination process Supporting documentation and/or letters of recommendation (up to 2 maximum) and a digital photograph of a simple head shot of nominee.

  • Nominees must be 18 years of age or older
  • Nominations are for an individual, not a couple or group, with the exception of Business of the Year.
  • If more than one nomination is submitted for the same nominee, only the first nomination will be considered
  • Nominator cannot be related to nominee
  • Nominees may be nominated for only one category
  • The decisions of the selection committee are final
  • Nominations that are incomplete or do not comply with the aforementioned guidelines may be disqualified
